The Rotai Ultimate Dual-Core RT8900 may not be the right massage chair for you and your family. Before taking the time and effort to visit one of our showrooms, we want to help you decide beforehand whether our chair will actually be suitable for your needs. You may decide that perhaps you should be considering a good quality chair from one of our competitors.
We want those coming to our showrooms to experience something extraordinarily special. Should you still wish to experience our chair for yourself (and we certainly hope you do!), then you'll be welcomed with open arms (with tea, coffee and biscuits thrown in! ). However, we very much suggest you visit other massage chair retailers before coming to see us and not be swayed by heavy sales tactics until you’ve at least tried the Rotai Ultimate.
So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. You may see chairs marketed as 4D up to 10D, and, undoubtedly, post-writing this article, you will start seeing 12D and 14D!
These are all marketing ploys. Let's take you back to school! Do you remember learning that there are only three dimensions in this world? That's "up and down", "left to right", and "forwards and backwards". That's it in a nutshell.
In the massage chair world, 3D is simply a term that explains that the rollers also go forward and backwards to ensure that the pressure is either as strong or as weak as you would wish to experience. Cheaper chairs generally only have a 2D capacity, e.g., "up and down" and "left to right". Regarding marketing, some manufacturers' advertising agencies suggested a fourth dimension or 4D. In short, there is no such "extra" dimension (at least on this planet). 4D is just "marketing speak" to describe that the rollers and/or their speed are a different "dimension". Please do not be confused by the description 6D/8D/20D! These terms have been created by marketing departments or importers to give their chairs a "boost".
In short, this is where the chair reclines so that the weight of your body is distributed evenly across the chair. To learn more, allow us to draw your attention to a great article by massage chair guru Dr Alan Weidner of Massage Chair Relief in the USA (massage-chair-relief.com/blog/zero-gravity-what-exactly-is-it).
We do not charge for shipping the massage chair to any location on Mainland UK (with the exception of the Scottish Highlands).
Further, every chair we sell will be delivered by our “white glove” service, which includes the chair being brought into your home, unpacked and carefully assembled.
One of the best methods of dealing with stress, anxiety and exhaustion that does not rely on medication is massage. Perhaps the primary reason massage is so popular is to relax the body and mind. Still, it is also an essential feature to cure sports-related injuries and other niggly muscle pains in the back.
Of course, you can use the services of a professional masseuse, who will either visit your home or, more often than not, you would visit their place of operation. However, a professional masseuse has both many advantages and disadvantages. A significant advantage of visiting a masseuse is that they will get to know your body ailments over a while should you visit them regularly. However, it is unusual to make regular visits to massage therapists. Regular visits to a massage therapist come at a steep cost (whether weekly or fortnightly), and it is essential to understand that that cost is not simply their charges. One must not forget that, other than their fee, one has to make the time for a visit to them which, if your work time hour is valuable, can add to the cost of their fee.
There are many reasons that you will find a massage chair beneficial and, in particular, the Rotai Ultimate.
When you are using a top-quality massage chair (rather than so many of the chairs that simply vibrate), Cortisol (popularly known as the stress hormone) is reduced (webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/what-is-cortisol). Also, a regular deep-tissue massage effectively reduces anxiety and stress levels by releasing Serotonin and Dopamine, which effectively deals with not only constant stress but also chronic symptoms.
An excellent quality massage chair can also help with poor posture, and helps ease neck and shoulder pains. The Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900 has specific automatic programmes to work the neck and shoulders.
If you decide to return the Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900 to qualify for the above offers, the chair MUST be returned in the original packing. In short, the original packing has been specifically and expensively made to protect the massage chair.
Further, should you return the massage chair, you will need to pack it in the original packing material and have it ready for collection by our shippers on a pre-arranged day convenient to you. We are unable to give you a precise collection time other than between 07:30 and 18:00. If packing the chair yourself will prove to be challenging, don’t worry – we will make some suggestions that will prove helpful.

If your ideal massage can be described as soft, gentle and relaxing, let us tell you from the "get-go" that the Rotai Ultimate is probably not for you. If this is all you are looking for in a massage chair, there are far gentler massage chairs on the market. Some programmes are gentle and relaxed, but nowhere near as gentle as cheaper products on the market. The Rotai Ultimate is very much "not a toy", and its main feature is that it gives a therapeutic deep-tissue massage. For example, the Rotai Ultimate can prepare your muscles in readiness for your sports session and get them back to the pre-workout condition after the session (lboro.ac.uk/sport/news/2020/december/what-can-massage-do-for-me).
The Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900 will help the body produce endorphins and serotonin in the brain, the very component in your body responsible for the “feel-good factor”, and certainly this can be a help with mental health issues.
This is a common question about massage chairs, and, as is often the case, the answer is taking a commonsensical approach. So long as you own a premium quality massage chair and your children are taught how to use it correctly, they will enjoy what will be a novel experience.
There is no specific "hard" age limit, but we err on the side of caution and suggest that it should not be used on children under the age of 16 years. However, the writer of this copy confirms that he has always allowed his grandchildren, 11 years old and older, to use it so long as he is overseeing the use.
We suggest that, with caution, children who are still growing should not use the chair regularly. Perhaps a couple of times a week for 10 minutes per session would be fine on its "gentlest program".
On the proviso that the chair being used is a "top-quality model", massage for children can actually be beneficial.
Perhaps the primary reason for the popularity of massage chairs is to alleviate stress. We never think of children being "stressed-out", but often, the pressure of doing well (or not so well) at school can result in similar stress that we adults can suffer. Putting your child in the chair for 20 minutes will have a calming effect.
Those with poor blood circulation will find the Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900 a godsend. This chair has a dual-roller system and it’s the only massage chair on the market with two separate independent rollers, one for the spine, neck and shoulders and the other concentrating on the lower back and glutes. The programme (in both automatic and manual modes), moves and vibrates and reaches every area to the back of your body, including: -
(see sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/04/140416125434)
The best way to ensure healthy blood circulation is to get it pumping around the body with physical activity and regular massage sessions. Imagine having your own massage chair therapist on standby every minute of the day!
In short, massage chairs are generally very safe to use. Still, there are always caveats that one must be mindful of and consider carefully.
Before delving into areas that may initially seem very obvious, we must focus on a specific safety area you may not have thought of. It is perhaps one of the most important considerations to remember when purchasing a massage chair and one we repeat throughout our website.
Rotai UK Ltd is part of a group of companies successfully trading in the service industry for almost 40 years. Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our customers. In the same breath, we must think about our staff's safety. Suppose we were to be accused of selling goods that were blatantly illegal to sell in the UK. In that case, that could result in, for example, a major fire hazard that results in a fatality. Our group of companies would collapse, not least that any insurance policy we carry would be invalid if we were accused of criminality.
So, let's get to the nitty-gritty. Regrettably, there have been some incidents where massage chairs have been responsible for fatalities, and one as recently as April 2021 (see link). Massage chairs responsible for these tragedies were not compliant with British Standard Regulations, nor would they have been tested or certified by a UKAS accredited (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) testing house.
Massage chairs are, of course, an upholstered product much like a sofa. However, and vitally, this upholstery covers various motorised components. Any motorised component generates heat, and, in rare events, overheating may occur, resulting in the combustion of the foam inside and the visible outer layer of the material.
Whatever massage chair you purchase, we cannot stress enough that you must not rely on either a simple stringed label attached to a chair suggesting that the chair is "fire-retardant". Further, you cannot even rely on a label sewn into the chair giving information about the chair's fire retardancy.
Both labels give the impression that you are purchasing a British Safety Standards compliant chair relating to the regulations that, in the UK, are ultra-strict (and necessarily so).
In much the same way that you would not dream, for example, of buying an electric blanket (remember them!?) that was not compliant for fire and safety; you cannot run the risk of having a massage chair (or indeed any electronic equipment) that is a risk to your family members.
Some users find the first session or two to be a little uncomfortable when they have not used a massage chair for an extended period. Sometimes they are left feeling sore when the session is over. The soreness is nothing more, for example, doing a sport for the first time in a long time and stretching muscles that haven’t been used for a long time. The soreness goes away very quickly, and we suggest you drink a few glasses of water and then wait a day or so before using it again. In short, when you do not get any repeat soreness or sensitivity to any part of your body, use the chair as often as you wish.
If an entry-level massage chair has been in constant use for more than an hour, we suggest that it’s a good idea to let the mechanism cool down to prevent any overheating of the roller mechanism. In the unlikely event that you hear a “metal on metal” sound in the back of the chair, that is simply the chair’s way of wanting a tea break! Get out of the chair and let it cool down, not forgetting that just like your body, if you use it too vigorously, you may get soreness of the muscles, or what affectionately is called “chair soreness”! In passing, the writer has been on the Rotai Ultimate RT8900 for much longer periods when going through many programmes and has never experienced any such over-heating. The Rotai Ultimate has an automatic cut-out in the rare instance of over-heating.
As in everything in life, more often than not, the cheaper the product, the less functionality and lower life expectancy. We expect the Rotai Ultimate RT8900 to last 12-15 years. Still, it is vital that after the first five years, it is maintained by a massage chair specialist, perhaps every two years.
We ask you not to take the above as "written in stone". We do not doubt, just with expensive cars versus inexpensive cars, that every so often, you will find a cheap chair that can last 12-15 years and never have a breakdown in the same way that even the most expensive chair might have a particular mechanical problem. However, it will be challenging to fix a cheap chair because there is generally no support backup. In contrast, with an expensive chair by a major brand, there will always be someone that can fix the problem.
Not only a great question but a critical one. We refer to this on other pages (see link). Still, there can be nothing more important with anything upholstered, especially in a massage chair where upholstery meets electronic motors. You know that the chair is totally compliant with BS Standards. The Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900 has been built explicitly for the United Kingdom market. We do not wish to frighten you, but massage chairs that are not BS Standard compliant could, quite frankly, result in fire hazards (please enter “massage chair fire” into Google and be prepared to be shocked). It is vital that when you are purchasing a chair from any manufacturer, you not only see a sewn-in label referring to fire regulations on the chair (generally under the cushioning) but that you also ensure that the retailer you are purchasing it from shows you the Fire Compliancy Certificate from a UKAS Testing House. Please be mindful that any other testing house is not acceptable in the United Kingdom and cannot necessarily be trusted to have conducted the correct tests. Also, it is vital when reading the certificate to check that PC leather been tested and, more importantly, the foam inside the chair is totally compliant. If this can’t be provided, then we suggest that you do not purchase the chair for either your family or your office’s safety.
A premium massage chair can very much help to relieve the stress of lower back problems. RT8900 in conjunction with physio education can be particularly effective for sufferers of sub-acute and chronic non-specific back pain. Of course, orthopaedic consultants and surgeons often prescribe massage for the rehabilitation process of lower back pain.
Many years ago, the massage industry moved from Japan to China. Once again, many distributors suggest that their chairs have been designed, engineered or manufactured in Japan. However, the vast majority of massage chairs are actually designed, built and manufactured in China. In terms of quality, they are comparable. As with the quality and manufacturing in any country, you have top-quality down to bottom-drawer.
In many cases, a top-quality chair from a premium Chinese manufacturer is every bit as good and often better as those manufactured in Japan. The writer is now going to give you an idea of his age when he tells you that when he was a young man if you ever saw the words “made in Hong Kong” on any product, you knew that it was cheaply made. However, some of the biggest clothing brands in the World are now proud to say “made in Hong Kong” or “made in China/Vietnam”. Don’t forget that Apple products are made in China, and no one has yet accused them of being shoddy products. Indeed, some chairs, such as the Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900, were designed with help from the USA and Japan. Still, the vast majority of engineering is Chinese. Beware of those websites that suggest that their chairs are made in Japan. A quick “Google Reverse-Image search” will likely reveal that the “Japanese” chair was purchased from a factory advertising on Alibaba.
We want everything about purchasing a chair from us a “no brainer”. We do not believe that there is any other massage chair company with policy on returns that comes close to what we offer. The only proviso that we insist upon is that pre-purchase you have visited one of our showrooms for a full demonstration of the Rotai RT8900.
These are the main points, the only "small print”
We very much advise that you purchase an extended warranty, notwithstanding that the Rotai Ultimate is supplied with a 4 years parts and labour warranty. Repairs are carried out at your home. If the chair needs to be returned to our service department, this will be at our cost, as will the chair return. We offer additional warranties for periods of an additional one year up to a further three years over and above the standard warranty. We will inform you of the extended warranty costs at the purchase time. As with any electrical purchase containing multiple electrical circuits and motors/moving parts, these can but, thankfully, rarely fail, especially when buying what we believe to be the best massage chair available. We think it is simply a question of common sense, but whether you buy an extended warranty or not is, of course, your prerogative.
Yes. We will be pleased to offer finance plans at 0% for periods of up to 12 months.
One of the most significant benefits of owning a massage chair in your home is to help with sleeping disorders. Many Doctors believe regular massages can help overcome insomnia and other sleep disorders. Deep Tissue massage helps reduce serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain. As a by-product of the creation of serotonin, melatonin (a hormone released by the pineal gland at night) is also produced, and melatonin has been linked with the control of the sleep cycle for decades. Trust us when we tell you that a therapeutic massage, either by an excellent therapist (there are many good therapists out there!) or a top-quality massage chair, will get you snoring in no time and result in a deeper sleep.
You will be surprised at the benefits of a great stretching programme before and after sports and workouts. There is not a massage chair currently on the market that has a stretch programme that even approaches that of the Rotai Ultimate (Dual-Core) RT8900.
The Thai Stretch programme is one of the main reasons we ask potential visitors to try out the “Stretch Programmes” on other chairs. Many of our clients tell us that the “Thai Stretch Programme” was instrumental in their decision to buy the Rotai Ultimate.
Massage chairs are certainly safe for children but, of course, if your child has any medical condition for which massage is not advised then always consult your Doctor as to whether the massage chair can be safely used.
